After a successful week, having topped the group stage with three wins from three over Bognor Regis, Rottingdean and Preston Nomads B, we went to the final and played against Henfield, the other undefeated team from the group stage.

It was encouraging to see every player have the opportunity to bat – a rare but welcome occurrence. While our total of 171 felt slightly below par given the excellent conditions and quality of the pitch, the innings was anchored by a superb 81 from Albi, who was deservedly named Player of the Match. He was well supported by his teammates, with Marcus particularly impressing with his composed and technically sound batting.

At the interval, the team was reminded of the importance of early breakthroughs, particularly targeting the opposition’s top four. Remarkably, they exceeded expectations by dismissing Henfield’s top ten in rapid succession. The bowling unit delivered an outstanding collective performance, with wickets shared across the team. Unfortunately, not all players had the opportunity to bowl due to the swift conclusion of the match, as Henfield were bowled out for just 58.

Special mention goes to JB for his excellent work behind the stumps, and to Ruben, Olly, and George for their tireless efforts in the field, consistently cutting off boundaries and maintaining pressure. Overall, the fielding was exceptional – arguably one of the finest displays from a U13 side this season. The unwavering commitment from every player played a crucial role in securing the win and ultimately, the trophy 🏆.

Congratulations to the team on a well-earned victory, and sincere thanks to all the parents who have travelled extensively across the county this week to support the players.

It has been a genuine pleasure to coach this group throughout the season. Their performance today sets a high standard for the future. Well done to the entire team – I look forward to celebrating with you all at awards night.
