Sussex Slam Cup Finals Day – Women’s Team
It was an exhilarating Finals Day for Chilt Women’s Slam Cup team.
We began with a tightly contested semi-final against Bognor. After winning the toss and opting to field, the team delivered an exceptional performance. Standout moments included impressive catches from Imogen Alcott, Lizzie Toogood (2), and wicketkeeper Violet Clements, alongside a sharp run-out by Vicky Holliday. The fielding effort was notably one of our best this season. Wickets were evenly distributed among our bowlers, and on a pitch with short boundaries in a fast-paced 16-over format, we did well to restrict Bognor to 122 runs.
Our batting innings started slowly, raising concerns among spectators as the required run rate climbed. However, the team found its rhythm. Pranjali Palkar contributed a solid 17 before falling to a well-delivered ball, and Keri Murrell retired on an impressive 41. Emma MacDonald added a quick 19 before being stumped, and Fleur Baker delivered a brilliant unbeaten 25 off just 10 balls, supported by Vicky Holliday. We successfully chased the target with one over to spare.
In the final, we faced reigning champions and tournament favourites, Hailsham. Once again, we won the toss and chose to field, aiming to restrict their scoring. Emma and Vicky led the bowling attack, but Hailsham’s aggressive batting saw them reach 157, with their key batter retiring on 41 off just 16 balls. Despite the challenge, our team showed resilience, surpassing 100 runs and completing the full 16 overs. Ultimately, Hailsham’s batting proved too strong.
It was a fantastic day for the team, and reaching the Slam Cup Final is a tremendous achievement. We now look ahead to next season with excitement, as we prepare to compete in the Slam Cup, Sussex Cricket League Division 2, Slam Shield, and Women’s Softball.
