First Ever Women's Match in Cricket Week

We were delighted to welcome our Club President to the inaugural senior cricket week Womens match. Peter Jones came to watch but happily picked up the scorers pen when he noticed we were lacking. Thank you Peter.

In the days leading up to the game, we had been dogged by availability challenges but a change of format, a very understanding opposition and some generous people juggling work commitments, eventually produced a most enjoyable, and tightly balanced match.

Aldwick won the toss and elected to bat notching up 138 runs for the loss of 6 wickets.

In reply West Chilt reached 129 In their 24 overs.

Our team was a perfect mix of youth, experience, veterans and just plain old. We had a welcome guest  appearance from Evette Burton (who has played a bit of cricket in her time) who had also planned just to watch but just happened to have her kit in the car so became our 8th player.

Hats off to Liz H who did an awesome job behind the stumps.  Fine batting and bowling from our youth players Harriet H, Phoebe, Imogen and Emma; a masterclass from Vicky H, plenty of runs from Evette and even the non-veteran-just-old player managed to score a couple of runs and pick up a wicket.

Our visitors, Aldwick played a huge part in making this a memorable day. We thank them for their patience during the lead up to the game, their skills on the pitch and for the moments of comedy and laughter that punctuated the serious stuff of cricket.

And to thanks to Jo for organising teas and Louisa for helping with scoring.

We hope to repeat the event next year but maybe without the stress of not having enough players. Put it in your diaries now - although date is tbc.
