As the summer sun sets on another thrilling cricket season, West Chiltington & Thakeham Junior Cricket Club celebrates a year defined by courage, camaraderie, and exceptional performances across every age group. From the fearless U7s to the formidable U16s, our young cricketers have shown that the future of the club is not just bright—it’s blazing.

👑 The U11G team dazzled this season:

  • League Record: 9 wins from 10 matches, narrowly missing top spot on Net Run Rate.

  • Wisborough Green Tournament: Unbeaten champions.

  • SJCF Bowl (Hardball): Dominated and won convincingly.

Their season was defined by focus, determination, and joy. Every match was played with heart, and their support for one another made them a true team to admire.

🏏 U13 Girls: Courage Beyond Years

This spirited squad, made up of players ranging from U9 to U14, defied expectations and age gaps with unwavering team spirit. One standout moment saw younger girls stride out to bat against opponents several years older—undaunted and determined. While runs were modest, their grit was immense, with openers even carrying their bat through innings.

A defining match came in the SJCF opener against Aldwick. Bowled out for 71 in just 14 overs, the outlook was grim. But post-tea, the girls returned in matching pink warpaint (sunscreen stick!) and nearly pulled off a miracle—falling just two wickets short of victory. Their refusal to accept defeat was nothing short of inspirational.

🎯 U15 Girls:

Although there were no U15 league fixtures this season, our U15 girls made a massive impact in the senior women’s campaigns—proving themselves indispensable in both the Slam and Division 2 competitions.

Their aggressive batting and pinpoint bowling were nothing short of masterclasses, and their contributions were vital to the success of the women’s teams. Quite simply, the squads would have been lost without them. A powerful reminder of how junior talent continues to elevate the club at every level.

😄 U7s: Joyful Beginnings

Top achievements? No fights, no drama—just happy hitters and emerging bowlers. The emphasis on fun and friendship laid the perfect foundation for future cricketing stars.

🧢 U8s: Building the Basics

This talented bunch impressed with their attitude and eagerness to learn. From full run-ups and six-ball overs to batting in pairs and mastering communication, they’re well-prepped for match play next season.

🚀 U9s: From Nervous to Noteworthy

The U9s showed remarkable growth, winning five of their seven matches. Their win over Horsham—while padded up and helmeted for the first time—was a proud moment, proving their adaptability and courage.

🏅 U10s: Trophy Triumphs

  • Six-a-Side Champions at Horsham: Beat the hosts in the semi-final and crushed Burgess Hill in the final—bringing home the shield for the first time in six years.

  • Softball Cup Finalists: We reached finals day with a strong team performance, but missed out on the silverware. A proud showing from the squad nonetheless.

🥈 U11 Boys: Consistent Contenders

  • League Finish: 2nd place, continuing a podium streak (3rd, 1st, 2nd over three seasons).

  • Only team to beat Ifield.

  • SJCF Finalists.

This group continues to set high standards, combining skill with sportsmanship.

🏆 U12s: Spirit of the Game

Over 31 matches, the U12s received glowing praise from nearly every opposing coach—a testament to their sportsmanship and unity. With 25 wins from 28 league games, they’ve proven themselves as one of the club’s most consistent and respected squads.

🌟 U13 Boys: Fielding Masterclass & Shield Glory

Entering the West Area League for the first time, the U13s finished an impressive third, toppling giants like Middleton and Chichester. The win over Chi was a fielding clinic—two long-range direct hits, three catches, no drops, and minimal extras.

Their crowning moment? Lifting the SJCF Shield. Despite setting a below-par score against Henfield, the team’s relentless fielding and pinpoint bowling triggered a dramatic collapse from the opposition. Every player gave their all, proving that passion and pressure can win matches.

🧨 U14s: Dominance and Depth

The U14s delivered a season of standout individual and team brilliance:

  • League Awards Sweep:

    • Most runs scored by an individual

    • Most wickets taken by an individual

    • Most fielding dismissals by an individual

    • Highest actual score (despite retire-at-30 rules)

    • All achieved by different players—showcasing the depth of talent across the squad.

  • SJCF Week:

    • 6 half-centuries from 5 different players—a remarkable display of batting consistency and firepower.

This team has blended individual excellence with collective strength, making them one of the most exciting squads to watch this season.

🧱 U15s: Stepping Up to Senior Cricket

One of the biggest successes for the U15s this year was their seamless transition into senior league cricket. Every member of the squad proudly represented West Chiltington in the 3rd XI, 4th XI, or Sunday team—showing maturity and readiness beyond their years.

Their competitive edge was on full display in the Division 1 league, where they finished a superb third. Most notably, they were the only team to defeat league champions Ifield—a side known for its strength and consistency. A brilliant achievement that reflects both talent and tenacity.

Here's to the next chapter in WCTCC’s junior cricket journey.

🔥 U16s: Final Year, Fierce Spirit

In their final junior season, the U16s proved that when at full strength, they were virtually unstoppable.

  • Season Record: 9 played, 6 won, 1 conceded

  • League Finish: 3rd place

  • SJCF Ranking: 9th out of 30

Their SJCF campaign ended just short of glory—thanks in part to the Reading Festival and one Ollie Mason from Pagham, arguably the finest junior batter encountered this year.

Standout performances came from across the squad and younger players who stepped up when needed—especially Bella Boyce, who kept superbly throughout the season. Batting highlights included Sam Waddell’s 50* vs St Matthias, Luke Seaton’s 62 vs Eastergate, and a phenomenal SJCF run from Xander Boyce with scores of 120*, 75, and 60.

With the ball, Luke posted stunning figures of 6/3 from 4 overs, closely followed by Xander’s 8/3. Though silverware eluded them, the team’s commitment to return stronger in 2026 is already locked in.

From first-time helmet wearers to seasoned trophy winners, every player has contributed to a season that will be remembered for its heart, hustle, and high achievement. Here's to the next chapter in WCTCC’s junior cricket journey. 🏏

The American Heart Association See this   recommends 75-150 minutes of aerobic activity, as well as two strength-training sessions, per week. Assuming the strength training sessions last roughly 20 minutes each, that breaks down to about three hours of exercise a week.
