Changes at the top

Updated: Sep 6, 2023

Martyn Swift has made the difficult decision to step down as 1st Xl skipper. Unfortunately, Martyn suffered a knee injury last season and has struggled to fully recover. It is likely that he will not be physically fit enough to play a full season or even bowl. Due to this he has also decided to step away from WCTCC and will be returning to his old club Worthing CC, where he is intending to play the odd game when able. The 1st Xl committee and club as a whole want to thank Swifty for everything that he has done for the club. His Red Indian outfit on BHM will never be forgotten, like his singing voice in the bar after a game, unfortunately. Thanks mate, good luck, best wishes and remember you will always be a Windmill and welcome here anytime.

Following the departure of Martyn, the club committee are extremely pleased to announce that Hugo Gillespie has agreed to take on the role of 1st XI skipper for the 2023 season. Those of you that know him will agree he is a 1st class cricketer, an excellent team player and 100% committed to the success of our cricket club at every level.

And the Seconds…

Alfie Reeves will be taking over as skipper of the 2nd XI this year from Callum Wyatt. Callum has not only been skipper of the 2’s for a number of years, he has also been instrumental in inspiring, coaching and supporting numerous young players ever since he started playing senior cricket himself. We are all extremely grateful to Callum for all the time and effort he has given over the years and not just for the period as skipper. We know that your skills and experience will benefit many more players over the coming years. On behalf of the committee, players, and members thank you for everything that you have done and will do in the future.

Alfie has been involved in the club for many years and we know that he is looking forward to the challenge ahead. Having started his senior cricket playing for the 3’s as a young lad, he has grown in stature and skill and will no doubt lead the way he has played, hard, fair, positive and with a grin.

Congratulations Hugo and Alfie, rest assured you have the help and support of everyone, players, committee and supporters. Have a great season, good luck.
